Dai Chuanchang has been working in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine since 1991, and received his PhD in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in 1999,

In 2003, Dai Chuanchang performed the world's first replantation of a totally avulsed ear in a young child, achieving complete survival, and also achieved successful replantation of a high-level scalp avulsion injury. He participated in the compilation of more than four professional books, including Plastic Surgery, edited by Professor Wang Wei, and Tissue Engineering: Theory and Practice, edited by Professor Cao Yilin.
